My name is Colton and Sumo has been a passion of mine for nearly a decade. I stumbled across the sport online and gradually over a number of years of watching professional sumo, I became more and more enthusiastic about the sport. Eventually I grew the desire to try it out myself which led me to Ronin Sumo in Toronto. Here I would receive the guidance of a number of experience sumo wrestlers. I have now been training for 3 years and have competed a couple of times. In 2023, I had the honor of meeting Hakuho who is widely considered the greatest of all time. Meeting him I was awestruck and inspired to intensify my training and devotion to the sport. I have since competed in a couple events where I have felt the thrill of competition and the desire to keep improving my skills. In 2025, I have been selected to represent Canada at the world championships in Thailand. I will be the vanguard (first to compete) in the teams event and will be competing in the open weight competition. The Canadian Sumo Federation doesn't have the financial resources to pay for me to go and so I will be responsible for funding my travel and accommodation expenses. Between flights and the accommodations package, I will be paying roughly 3500$. Having just finished up my masters degree last year, I will struggle to manage these costs. I am hoping to get some assistance so that I can focus my energy on preparing physically and mentally for the competition without the stress of fundraising. What I can commit to for any contributors is the production of a video that documents my experience in preparation and then the trip to Thailand. I will have the video made within a month of my return and will make it available to view online. any donations are greatly appreciated and I hope that on September 14th, I can make you proud for having supported me.
