MIT-Harvard Medical School Healthcare Innovation Program
To give you some background on how all this happened let me start from the beginning. In June 2017, I was selected from a large pool of talent to join a professional development program for high achieving talent called Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT). In this program, I have completed business case studies and intensive assignments to hone analytical, quantitative, communication skills. This program helped me define my career in healthcare and technology by giving me rich industry insights and invaluable professional connections.
Moving forward to September 2017 the unimaginable happened, Puerto Rico got hit by two monstrous hurricanes. Hurricane Maria passed through my island with ferocious wind speeds and profuse rainfall, forcing us to stop our quotidian routine and step out of the comfort zone. What strikes me the most about this experience is how our culture bloomed in adverse circumstances by preserving our poise, and proliferating positivity in a collective fashion. Inevitably, the inspiration of this national movement called “Puerto Rico Will Rise Again” served as activation energy for me to take action in my own fate.
When internet connection finally came through I knew I had to make my move and in hopes to continue my education and pursue a career in healthcare, I applied and got admitted to the Health Services Administration program at the University of Central Florida, making this accomplishment a paramount juncture in my personal development.
Overcoming this adversity has been a challenging task, but one thing that I learned from this experience was to use my obstacles as stepping stones. My hard work has been continuously yielding results in my academic and professional performance. This summer 2018 I have secured a competitive internship with a tech company called Aeris Communications, where I will be working full-time in Chicago. For the fall of 2018, I will be working as a volunteer at a top-tier hospital called Nemours Children's Hospital. Additionally, to my surprise, I was selected out of an international talent pool of 1,000+ to participate in one of the world's most prestigious entrepreneurship programs at Harvard Medical School.
The MIT-Harvard Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp is an accelerated learning program that combines lectures on healthcare, innovation, and entrepreneurship from faculty at both universities and works on project teams to start a new healthcare venture in one week. By joining an international community that is passionate to solve healthcare most challenging problems I will create an extremely valuable network that will help me prosper in my professional career.
Just to be considered to participate in this program is a huge achievement for me, but, it does not stop here. The program challenges accepted applicants to fundraise $7,500, and since I appreciate a good challenge, I AM ON A MISSION. For this campaign, I am seeking $5,000 dollars to fund my tuition into this program and prove to myself that I am capable of accomplishing every goal that I set for myself. Your contribution is going to a young man that is betting on himself to make an impact in the community and the healthcare industry by positioning himself in innovative environments such as the one that Harvard & MIT breeds.
