My name is Adam Cichon
I am a 28 year old guy that likes lots of comics, plays a bunch of games, and lives to find new music. I'm currently attending the University of North Texas, and am majoring in Psychology with a minor in French language studies.
Recently the French program at my university has offered a study abroad program in the city of Cannes, with a four day stay in Paris. This is a huge opportunity to expand my knowledge of the language, and finalize my minor, while experiencing the culture at its source.
It's also a very expensive one as you might imagine.
Unfortunately I am unable to pay for this trip out of pocket. But this trip is immensely important to me. I have a deep love of art, cooking, and music, all of which have a large presence in France.
On top of the cultural aspects, Alexandre Dumas is a massive part of my education, and one of the reasons I began study of the language in the first place. If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to visit some of the places where his novels were set. Along with my interest in France as a whole, I'm feeling like I'm at the point in my life where I might not have another opportunity to go on an adventure like this for a while, if ever. It’s not the most pleasant of thoughts, but it’s a motivation all the same.
So what's all of this cost?
The estimated cost for this trip through University of North Texas is $11,000. This covers room and board, the classes taught, and two meals a day. That does not cover dinners, boarding during Spring Break, passport, visa, or any kind of extra spending money.
By the end of May, or beginning of June, I need to have at least $600 of that for application fees and deposits. I already have the money for this set aside. I am actively working on getting what money I can through student loans and grants, but that processing takes time, and those funds can only take me so far.
Any extra money would go to possible extra activity and food costs as well as souvenirs for those who donated.
On top of that I will be doing quite a bit of drawing when possible. People, places, things, whatever I can put to paper. I will be offering that art to those who donate through either digital or physical means after the trip is over.
And hey, if you don't want anything? You can at least feel awesome in making a guy's dream come true to visit a foreign country!
Thank you so much for your help, it truly means the world to me.
