My amazing daughter, Laney, an 8th grader at Landmark Middle School, just found out she is invited to attend the Spring 2016 National Youth Leadership Forum: National Security - Diplomacy, Intelligence & Defense. This is an amazing opportunity that will allow her to spend 6 days in Washington, DC, meeting one-on-one with representatives from all branches of the military, federal agencies, and private companies to learn about education and career opportunities, visiting government agencies, foreign embassies, and military facilities such the Pentagon, Quantico, and U.S. Department of State, and learning about our nation's leaders while expanding on her own leadership abilities. She will attend leadership focus groups, visit the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and explore careers in national defense and intelligence. Also, she gets a college credit for attending!
The invitation to attend this program is an exceptional honor. Laney was nominated by one of her teachers due to her "academic achievement and leadership ability". The price for the trip is $2000 and is due by February 15, 2016, but Laney will need airfare and money for meals and expenses as well. As a single mother, I am quite limited in what I can contribute (especially on such short notice!). Therefore, I am reaching out to our friends, family, and anyone else kind enough to send my awesome daughter on a trip that will undoubtedly change her future while teaching her about our nation's past.
Any of you that know Laney probably know that she has her heart set on joining the military. She is very smart and qualifies for the IB program when she begins high school. Her intelligence and passion for the armed forces will make her an asset to our country in the near future. The Spring 2016 National Youth Leadership Forum: National Security - Diplomacy, Intelligence & Defense program will have a profound impact on her future and her career trajectory. We are both thrilled for this opportunity, but I can't enroll her without the funding in place.
Any donations received are incredibly appreciated. Thank you!
