Send White Middle School Robotics Team to Spain!

We are excited to announce that Stephen White Middle School STEAM Magnet’s 6th grade robotics team has been invited to compete in the Vex IQ Challenge Mediterranean Open 2020 in Barcelona, Spain! Our robotics team will be the only representative from Los Angeles Unified School District and only the 2nd school in the nation to attend this year!
We are located in Carson, California with a diverse student population of over 1700 with 90% being identified as students of color. Our amazing team consist of 6th graders between the ages of 11 and 12 years old who have worked hard by designing and building their robots collaboratively. Our students have overcome many obstacles, such as a lack of resources and lack of experience, but they have remained committed to their education and to nurturing their love of robotics and engineering. Most of our students come from a lower socioeconomic status and as a result have had very limited exposure to technologically based classes. Initially, the robotics program presented some challenges. But they met those challenges head on. They have persevered and attained the necessary skills to succeed.
We are currently attempting to raise $20,000 to send our team to partake in this amazing journey. The donations will be used to help fund registration, air fare, hotel, meals, uniforms, and other robotics related needs.
