We are seven scholars who have qualified for the National History Day international contest!!! National History Day is a year-long academic program that engages students in historical research, critical thinking, and public presentation; participation helps students develop research skills, civic awareness, and confidence through competition and scholarly exchange. We need your financial support to help us make our way to the University of Maryland and Washington, D.C.
Hannah — Senior Individual Performance (won PBS Award at State Contest) Hannah's performance was recorded by PBS and will be highlighted in the 250th Celebration and release of Ken Burns' new documentary! Her project is an original performance about The Revolution of the Publication of Phillis Wheatley’s literary works, the Reaction from White Intellectuals, and the Reform Surrounding the Perception of African Americans' Intellectual Capabilities.
Brynlee — Senior Research Paper titled From Silence to Senators: How the National Cancer Act Revolutionized the National Cancer Institute’s Approach to Cancer Research.
Sydney — Senior Individual Exhibit (won Chronicling America at State Contest for primary research) Sydney's project was the overall winner for her use of primary research! She created an exhibit detailing how the Paint Creek Cabin Creek Strike reshaped labor relations in West Virginia.
Sinclaire, Lizeth, Maddy, and Eliza — Senior Group Performance of an original performance about the 1920s Flappers and how they created a Revolution in Fashion, Reaction to New Freedoms, and Reform in Gender Norms.
