Send Tim to BMX World Championships!
Hey! Tim qualified for the BMX World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark!
How did this happen?!
Picture it-- 1987, West Palm Beach, Florida, little Timmy Heermance, age 2 and half years old, is riding his bicycle up and down the sidewalk and asks his Mom to take off the training wheels, but when she says to wait until his Dad gets home, little Timmy finds the tools he has seen his father use and does it himself!
A personal story from present-day Timmy:
As a young child, I can remember driving past the Okeeheelee BMX track & begging my parents to go. It wasn't until I was around 10-years old that I finally got the opportunity when a new neighbor who raced moved in across the street. My father bought a used bike from them and I was hooked from the first drop of the gate! I continued riding and racing into my early-20s when being adult took over my time to ride bicycles. In my mid-30s, the old BMX injuries caught up to me and I got to the point where I could barely walk; I thought there was no way that I could ride a bike.
Thankfully, a good friend convinced me to start mountain biking with him & I was amazed that within 3 or 4 months I was walking better & could stand up to ride out of saddle again. Not one for holding still, I decide it's time to get back out on the BMX track again -- by the 3rd gate, my knee [ACL rebuilt way back in 2003] started to bother me and I wrote off racing, but continued reviving my passion for cycling on mountain bikes.
Fast forward to 2022 when another good friend decided to start racing again & convinced me to give it a go one more time. By this time, the years of trail riding had strengthened my knee enough to ride around the track repeatedly.
My first season back in the sport I took 2nd place in my class at the State Championships.
In 2024, I was in position to qualify for World Championships on both bikes [20" standard class, and Cruiser class] but unfortunately got into a wreck with the first and second place riders taking me out of qualifying for 20" where my passion has always been. I did, however, qualify for Worlds in the Cruiser class. Then, just 9 weeks before the World Champs last year, I was in a wreck at a state qualifier race and broke my pelvis. I was determined to make it to World Champs in South Carolina so I did everything I possibly could to heal and recover and get back on my bike.
Again, not one for holding still, I did it -- and got to race for Team USA only 9 weeks after a major injury and still made it to the top half of nearly 100 international riders in my class. What an experience!
This year, my home track at Okeeheelee BMX hosted a World qualifier race, so I decided to go for it again -- I qualified for both bikes!! I can't wait to race for Team USA this summer 2025!
With that being said, this year World Championships will be held in Denmark and, needless to say, will be much more expensive. Any donations to help me with travel, lodging, transportation for me and my bikes, international BMX licenses and entry fees are deeply appreciated.
UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark to be held July 28 - August 3, 2025.
