January 2017
All of us at Collective Impact | Magic Zone are thrilled that our wonderful Tiazzi Hall (a freshman in our Teen youth development program) is pursuing her goal of going on a college tour over Spring Break. Instead of relaxing over vacation or putting in hours at her job, Tiazzi is choosing to focus on traveling from San Francisco to visit 8 schools in 6 days. The tour of several historically black colleges & universities (HBCUs) will include South Carolina State, Bennett College, Winston-Salem State University, and North Carolina Central University.
We could go on about why it’s important to support Tiazzi in achieving this dream, but we couldn’t say it any better that she does:
Starting as a freshman, you should get to travel and see everything, experiencing the different types of colleges. Then, by the time you are in the 12th grade, you will have the experience and the opportunity of all you have seen, and can look at planning ahead.
College is one of my goals because my parents never went to college, but they tried; so that has really become one of my goals. Also, I want to show people that anyone can do it, and it doesn’t matter how old you are. I work hard at school to get good grades and more. I already have some experience with college tours and learning about colleges; I have been to two, UCLA and USF. I went last winter break to UCLA and it was really fun. We did workshops and learned about what goes on in college; I really was able to view an image of me in college from that trip.
I hope you will help me with getting to my goal. Thank you so much!
Tiazzi H., age 15 | San Francisco, CA
Tiazzi works very hard, and we are extraordinarily proud of her. She is asking her family, friends, neighbors, and all who want her to succeed to donate to her College Tour Fund. Her goal is $2,500 to cover costs for travel and accomodations; please plan to give generously! Please let us know of any questions about ways to donate;.
