My Journey started in January 2009. While serving in Iraq, I injured my neck, head and back. (I had fractures in my C-2, and C-3, 9 Concussions and Brain bleed plus tore my oblique muscles on my right side) In my quest to find relief, I became addicted to pain pills which came with the bonus of serious weight gain and social anxiety. For the next two years, this was my battle. My VA Doctor told me that I was lucky to be alive and to just deal with the injuries and pain.
However, I chose to compete in life, losing weight and gaining strength. Along my journey, I have been given the chance to help motivate and coach other Veterans trying to move forward in their lives. I have worked with Wounded Warrior Project, Team Red White and Blue and Team Semper Fi helping others find their strength. From Tough Mudders, Road Bike racing, Crossfit, Powerlifting and now Strongman, I have tried to inspire others to "Get off the couch and get back into life". There was even a TV Show about my Journey. Click on the picture to watch...
Even now at 55 years old, I want to keep showing other wounded Veterans and everyday people that you can dream big and do great things…
Since 2019, I have been competing in Strongman events and have slowly grown in strength and skill so that I can now compete on a National stage. This year I am competing in America's Strongest Veteran in August and Strongman Corporations Masters Nationals in November. Last year, I finished 4th in Masters (over 40) at America's Strongest Veteran. This year, I believe that I can win...
This year, with the challenges of the economy, I am reaching out for help to make participation in these events possible. Travel, equipment (that no gym near me has), nutrition and specialized recovery needs for my body are expenses beyond the scope of my family's current budget. Bearing in mind inflation this year, each trip (Virginia for America's Strongest Veteran and Florida for Nationals) with flights, hotels, meals, rentals and fees with cost a little over $3000. Recovery work, meals and supplements for the next 4-5 months will cost around $3,000. Equipment, training time and gear would be around $1,500. Anything above these expenses would be spent to carve out more training time so that I can honor your gifts by competing at my best.
