Send Thespian Troupe 89287 to State Competition!

A decade ago, our school set out on an adventure to create a performing arts program that would pride itself on diversity and inclusivity. We are proud to say that our theater program has successfully reached over 2,000 students and continues to exceed expectations today. Students have mesmorized sold-out audiences for a decade while showcasing all students on the stage.

In 2015, a thespian troupe was established with the International Thespian Society. The level of performance of our troupe has caught the eyes of community leaders and district personnel. In 2019, our troupe was invited to perform at the first School Board Meeting for the 2019-2020 school year. Impressing the Superintendent with their performance of Bohemian Rhapsody, Mr. Carvalho requested the troupe to perform at the Superintendent’s Bahamas Benefit Concert. For the last two years, the troupe has attained the district thespian festival championship. In 2020, they went on to state competition where they were named Florida State Thespian Festival Champions. We are also proud to say we have students accepted to dozens of magnet programs around the county including, Miami Arts Studio at Zelda Glazer and New World School of the Arts. Last year our troupe went to win three categories at both district and state festivals. Most recently, 12 troupe members were chosen to participate in the professional performance of Carmen alongside opera professionals from the Miami Lyric Opera. Typically, this degree of excellence is found in magnet schools that strictly attract natural-born performers, however, we are homegrown talent.

The troupe’s accomplishments are in significant part possible due to the support of the comminuty. Our program prides itself on inclusivity and diversity. Currently, we are preparing to perform 15 musical theater numbers at our district festival and then move on to state competition. Including transportation, registration, accommodations, and meals, the cost of this four-day trip is $25,000. We need financial assistance to subside the cost of state competition for students. Trying to return to a sense of normalicy post-Covid has proven quite challenging in our schools. Students suffer mental health issues at an alarming rate and now, more than ever, programs that foster creativity and a sense of purpose are vital. The arts program and education are essential for our children.

Any financial contribution you can make to help pay for the state competition trip will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for all the support you have given this school throughout the years.
