Maximus, Marcus, and Jessee are 7th graders at Irvington Community Middle School in Indianapolis, IN. They are the first students to compete in National History Day from Irvington, and their website, Lewis Hine: The Man who Brought Attention to Child Labor (https://site.nhd.org/96765751/home), won first place at the Indiana state National History Day competition on April 21, 2024. They researched utilizing the Indiana Historical Society Library and Archives and in addition to bringing home the first place medal in their category, they also won the William Henry Smith Memorial Library Prize.
As you can imagine, a 5-day trip to College Park, MD and the DC area is expensive and we wanted to help these guys and their chaperone out by collecting funds from family, friends, and the ICS family who are dedicated to seeing them have these experiences, and their success at the national competition.
During the week there, along with their project judging, they will get to visit their Senators, tour the Nation's Capitol, and interact with scholars from across the 50 states.
Each year, students around the world discover history through National History Day® (NHD) by creating historical research projects. Through the process, students develop skills in communication, project management, and historical thinking. The 50th anniversary contest will be held June 9th-13th.
Thank you for your commitment to these three young men's education and scholastic endeavors. We appreciate you!
