Hey everyone! If you know Thea she is a little light in the world. The original GIRL! (Iykyk) Thea is so kind, driven, and smart but if you are close to her you may know she is a person with Dyslexia. When I said Thea was driven I mean she is constantly trying to conquer whatever is in front of her and she honestly loves a good challenge. Lucky for us she is also bursting with confidence like when she was 5 and lost her two front teeth I caught her in the mirror saying “I look good without my two front teeth!” It was from that moment I knew I was raising this girl right. Thea attends Charleston Montessori and has always been praised by her teacher and peers for her drive and kindness…but about 2 years ago in First Grade it became quite apparent that Thea was struggling to read like her peers. No matter how much intervention she was receiving Thea was not reading on her grade level and honestly not well at all. We immediately contacted Appalachian Reading Center who then tested her for dyslexia and confirmed what most of us already knew, she was in fact dyslexic. Thea has worked with Appalachian Reading Center for over a year, her wonderful teachers at Charleston Montessori and a reading specialist where she has shown everyone just how strong her drive to learn is…however she is still so far behind her peers in reading and language. So this brings me to the purpose of this go fund me…Thea has an amazing opportunity to attend The Gow School summer program located right outside of Buffalo NY, which specializing in educating adolescents with learning disabilities (Thea’s brother Leo who also has dyslexia has attended the program the last two summers (is attending his 3rd year this year) and we can absolutely not say enough good things about this program). Originally when we applied for Thea to attended we asked for a full scholarship but received a letter in the mail a few weeks later that Thea was accepted into the program but they could only award the amount of $4,200 of the 9,400 due for tuition. We sadly sent the email declining the offer because we could absolutely not afford to pay the rest and it seemed like such a large sum to ask for help with. However I received an email today stating that they decided they could award her $7050!!!! Which would only leave us paying $2350. Sadly that is still way too much for our budget so I am making this go fund me to ask you to please consider donating to getting this beautiful girl to camp. She deserves an opportunity to learn and read on her grade level. I mean this girl tested on a 7th grade level during standard testing on Math! 7th grade and she is going into Fourth. Please consider donating and making her dreams come true because I did not mention but she wants to go to camp…she has begged for this opportunity,
thank you guys,
