Send The Block Times #5 to the Printer
Donation protected
The Block Times is a grassroots newspaper in the Bronx produced by an editorial collective of longtime artists and organizers. We report on local news, views, and struggles in our borough, and draw out their radical potential to make a better world. Now we need your help to get issue #5 printed.
We produced four issues of The Block Times last year, which featured tenant organizing bulletins, interviews with migrants from Nicaragua, Mauritania and the Gambia, and reports from Bronxeños organizing for Palestine in their campuses and workplaces, as well as retrospectives on Black Liberation veterans Mutulu Shakur and Sekou Odinga. Each issue was distributed in the communities we interviewed and at local political and cultural events, and we grew a network of supporters to help fold and distribute copies in their neighborhoods.
BT#5 focuses on the aftermath of Trump's reelection, and it is already complete. But its release -- and our goal of reaching bimonthly publication in 2025 -- was set back after the printing machines to which we had access broke down or became inaccessible. We are exploring alternatives for future runs, including partnerships with local print shops. But in the meantime, we would like to bring BT#5 to press as soon as possible, to strengthen the fightback against Trumpism in our borough.
Your donation will help get 1,000 copies of BT#5 printed, a cost of about $1,400. Donations will also allow us to establish a war chest to expand our distribution and support for local struggles in the year ahead. Funds will cover:
- Metal newspaper stands for distribution in local bodegas, laundromats, and other venues;
- A projector and PA system for Block Times release parties and other sponsored events;
- Organizing materials (bannermaking and signmaking materials, megaphones, clipboards, etc) for campaigns the paper will support this year.
A donation of any size is helpful, and recurring donations are welcome too, as we may have to pay for print runs in the future. Thank you for your solidarity, and for supporting grassroots organizing in the Bronx!
