I missed my opportunity to take out a $5,800 loan for my first year of college at Northeastern Illinois University where I earned a 3.5 GPA my freshman year. I earned a dance scholarship that helped pay for my Freshman year, as well as the Provost Scholarship due to my high GPA from Lane Tech High School. In high school, I was the President of the Ultimate Frisbee Team, and I was the First Dancer for the Espana Club during I-Days.My life was once filled with happiness, dance, frisbee, ideas, and promise - now, I'm stuck working at a pizza place while living at home for the rest of my life.
I need an opportunity to better myself and learn a usable skill that I can apply to the job market. The first step is to pay off my first year of college. My father suffered a heart attack and a stroke when I was in middle school, and has not been able to find a job in years, so my parents are not in a position to help. My pizza job has often meant the difference between starvation and the streets for all of us.
Right now, the single greatest hurdle I need to tackle is the debt I owe to NEIU., and that is $5,800.
Next, I need to re-enroll, and begin my journey towards becoming a teacher.
If things go as planned, I'll be in a school, teaching, in just 2 and half years because I earned six months worth of college credit from dual enrollment while still in high school.
Even the smallest amount will make a difference in the world for all concerned!
