Hi!
My name is Tanner Alestra, and I’m super excited (and a little nervous) to share some big news — I’ve been nominated by a teacher from my school, Ms. Hearn to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.! It’s a program where students from all over the country come together to learn about leadership, teamwork, and how to make a difference in our communities. If I were able to attend I would be one of only three people from my school with the opportunity to go.
I’ve always been really interested in civics and how government works. Last year, I was the 3'rd place winner of the National Civics Bee and this year I’m competing again — and wrote an essay I’m really proud of on the effects of cyber bullying, access children have to social media and what can be done about it. Being nominated for this conference feels like the next big step for me to learn more, challenge myself, and become a better leader.
The only problem is that it costs a lot to go, and that’s more than what I can cover on my own. I’m hoping to raise enough money to pay for tuition and travel so I can take part in this amazing opportunity.
If you’re able to help — even just a little — it would mean the world to me. Every dollar really helps me get closer to this goal.
Thank you so much for reading my story and for supporting me. I promise to work hard, make the most of this experience, and do something great with what I learn.
Tanner Alestra
