Dear Friends and Family,

My sister, Sarah Scott, while an amazing person, is also the founder and executive director of The Kilimanjaro Project, "a grassroots community driven restoration initiative, with a dedicated and diverse team of experts, on a mission to grow millions of trees and accelerate ecosystem restoration in Africa, starting at the foothills of Kilimanjaro." Having grown up in Africa and having spent many of the last 25 years in Tanzania, Sarah brings an immense amount of passion and knowledge!

There is an upcoming Nature Based Solutions Africa Conference hosted by the Global Evergreening Alliance in Zambia from 11 - 15 March. And I’d like to ask for your help to get her there! We need to raise 2000usd/person to cover accommodation, airfares and food while in ZAMBIA. (It is crazy expensive and an epic long journey to find flights from Kilimanjaro to Victoria Falls!) We only have two weeks to raise this money so please consider donating to their trip!

Let me tell you why this is SO important?

This is one of the few NbS conferences held on the continent of Africa, that are bringing together the movers and shakers of the environmental movement. People like Tony Rinaldo (one of Sarah’s biggest inspirations), Patrick Worms, from World Agroforestry, Fiona Napier, Tim Christophesen (Salesforce), Dorothy Maseke (Financial Services Deepening Africa) along with a number of collaborators on NbS. The African Union and African Development Bank will also be there. It is much smaller event than COP and so she will have an amazing opportunity to connect with African policy and decision makers.

Under Sarah’s strategic leadership The Kilimanjaro Project (Kijani Pamoja) was selected as one of two organizations across the continent to join Africa’s FIRST biodiversity accelerator (BIRA) hosted by the African Leadership University, wildlife division. Many of the BIRA consortium partners will be present at this event, and again, an opportunity to meet, in person, sit at the table with them, and build the profile of KP. KP is currently negotiating investment for their community carbon project and biodiversity investments.

Sarah’s focus for 2024 and beyond is helping to amplify the voices from the ground - her 7 years experience leading KP has humbled her, instilled much wisdom knowledge, and it’s time for this to be shared.

Sarah is also the co-founder of the Art of Forest Alliance (see link) that was founded at COP26, and now has more than 150 global members. Many of her forest friends will be at the conference, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to network (in person), inspiring reciprocity and sharing.

Sarah also believes in growing alongside her colleagues and would like to bring her colleague Noel Mtenga to the event. He is the project lead on the Biodiversity Accelerator.

Again, we need to raise 2500usd/person!!!
