Send Ryan to Shadow Doctors in Spain:’)

Hello All,

I hope everything is going well and that you and your family are in good health :) I want to talk to you about an opportunity that is very rare, yet I am lucky enough to have. I would like to ask for your financial support as I take the next steps in my pursuit of becoming a physician.

For those of you who know me I have had the goal of being a physician, for practically as long as I can remember, and I have mentioned my goals and dreams to you all for just as long. Now, for those of you who do not know me, my name is Ryan Lemos and I am a third year Neuroscience Pre-med Major at La Sierra University. My love and passion for medicine started when I was really young, in elementary school. I have always had this desire to help others despite the way they may treat you. It has always been my motto and it will continue to be. As a child I would always get injured and then proceed to try ineffective methods to make my injuries get better. Although ineffective, it taught me that the body is fascinating and since then I have always wanted to know more about it and how to treat others. Being a physician would allow me to give the best to my surrounding community and help those less fortunate. I am currently interested in becoming some type of surgeon, Neuro, Orthopedic, or even becoming an Emergency Room doctor.

I have been fortunate enough to have been selected to participate in Atlantis’s program, which is giving me the opportunity to shadow doctors abroad in Spain. Atlantis is a pre-med abroad program connecting students like myself with doctors across the world. It is giving me the opportunity to get first-hand experience shadowing physicians in a 3-week period. I first heard about this program through my girlfriend two years ago, and it sounded awesome. I have been doing summer school the past two years to better prepare for my degree and upcoming MCAT, which is why I have been unable to participate in this program before. However, this summer 2022 I will be free for the first summer of my undergraduate degree. Which is why I wish to expand my knowledge and get more experience in the medical field during my free time. Thanks to the amazing opportunity that Atlantis is giving me, not only connecting me with amazing doctors, but doing it abroad, it will help me succeed in my journey to becoming a physician.

I am anxious and nervous at the same time for this experience because I will be in a new country far from home. Yet, I am eager, passionate, and joyous about the knowledge that I will be gaining from this experience. Rotating between different departments like Neuro, Emergency, OBGYN, orthopedics, etc. I hope this program guides me in the direction that is right for me and helps me affirm my decision about what path in the medical field I want to go into. I am excited to learn the Spanish language, try the local food and be assimilated into this new and exciting culture!

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to read my letter and learning about what I want to do to further my education this summer. I would like to ask your help in getting me to Spain. The total cost of the program is $6,000 but I hope to raise $4,500 so that I can pay for the program and also afford food and the extra expenses. I have some money saved and will be able to earn more money to pay the remainder. However, I am not able to pay for this all on my own, which is why I am asking for your help in raising enough money to be able to have this amazing experience. No matter the amount, I will be grateful for any gift that you are able to give, as it will help me be able to achieve this surreal experience. If you decide that you are willing and able to contribute to this journey of mine, I would love to keep you updated on my journey and all the things that I learn from this experience:’)
