Send Pescadero High School Class of 2024 to Hawaii

Dear Community,

Our Pescadero High School graduating class are some amazing students who have accomplished so much in their young lives, and because of where they live in a coastal, rural, mostly agriculture based, they have limited opportunities and limited funding to make big ideas like a fabulous Senior Trip a reality.

Despite those realities, and all of those obstacles, the class is almost there. Through extensive fundraising, attending every wild game feed, crab feed, and school event they could possibly attend the make this trip possible, and saving their earnings, the class is within $7000 of making this trip a trip of a lifetime for these students.

My name is Phil Hophan, I am the Principal of Pescadero High School, and have helped the students to develop their plans for traveling to Hawaii, and because the trip is a school sponsored event, one of my jobs is to ensure the trip is not only a vacation and a celebration of their graduation, but as well the students get to experience activities like the Pearl Harbor Museum, which has to be experienced in person to fully grasp the significance of that attack and the implications for the Japanese farmers who lived right here on the coast in Pescadero. The Pacific Rim Cultural Center which introduces a culture that diversifies our students knowledge of cultures beyond their own, which is fairly monolithic here in Pescadero. Finally, the national parks and the preservation of nature and the hiking these students will do through these places ties into a theme of environmental education which is a big deal in our school.

This is NOT a Daytona Beach spring break trip. This is an experience of a lifetime, and I am coming to you, hand outstretched wanting to make this happen for these students, and honoring the fact these students have already worked so hard to raise most of the funds needed t o send every senior student.
