As a social studies teacher at Edward C. Reed High School, I have the privilege of guiding students through the National History Day program, an academic competition that encourages original historical research and critical thinking. This year, two of my 11th grade students took on the challenge of entering their research projects into the National History Day competition, choosing to compete in the exhibit category. Their dedication and hard work paid off. The two students who qualified received 1st and 2nd place at the state level, earning the opportunity to advance to the national competition in Washington, DC.

Attending the national competition is a remarkable achievement and an invaluable educational experience. At this event, students will present their projects to judges from across the country, connect with peers who share their passion for history, and further develop their academic skills. However, participation requires out-of-state travel, and there are significant expenses involved, including flights, transportation within Washington, DC, meals, and other travel costs.

I am reaching out to our community for support to help offset these expenses.
