Hello, we are parents of the Midshipmen on the United States Naval Academy's D3 hockey team, which has qualified for the ACC M2/M3 AAU Championship Tournament, taking place March 3-5 at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex.
While the team was extremely excited when they learned that they earned a spot to participate in the tournament, they also discovered that they will not be receiving any financial support from the Academy to enable them to attend the tournament and compete, as they are almost entirely self-funded. As a result, the Midshipmen must rely entirely on their own financial resources and supporters’ gift funding generosity to enable them to participate. As proud parents of this hard-working team, many of whom will be playing together for the last time, we want to help the Midshipmen to compete in this tournament.
Our goal is to help raise the funds necessary to cover the van rentals for the team to drive to North Carolina, fuel, 3 nights' lodging, and meals.
Any help that friends, team parents and other enthusiastic Navy hockey fans and supporters can contribute to help defray costs for the team as they represent the school will be greatly appreciated.
If the team has any donated funds left over after the tournament, it will be deposited into the team account (which is currently empty) so that they don't begin next season at a deficit (they'll have some cash to pay ref fees, get to away games, etc.) and having tremendous out of pocket expenses from day one.
** This appeal is the sole effort of USNA D3 hockey team parents and is not an appeal from the U.S. Naval Academy, the Navy or the Department of Defense. **
