Hi all, I'm Jacob. I made a GoFundMe to help raise money for my mother, here is what is going on.
24 years ago, my mother Joanne, was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 28. She was a single mother of a 1, 2 and 3-year old at the time. To combat the cancer, she underwent radiation and open heart surgery and successfully beat it. Due to undertaking radiation, at the time doctors told her she could experience repercussions in about 20 years time.
At 52, she now has cardiovascular radiation disease which causes the arteries to become significantly clogged due to the radiation she underwent years ago, as well as other cardiovascular complications. She most recently has had a stent put in, but there is not much else her cardiologists in our area, Stamford, Connecticut, can do. She is considered a very high risk patient due to not only this newly discovered disease, but also due to heavy amount of scarring due to her first open heart surgery that make it difficult to operate. The professionals in our area are not comfortable performing any type of procedure on her due to her being such a rare case. Her only hope is to go to Cleveland, Ohio where they specialize in this specific radiation disease.
Our financial situation is not the best, and her insurance will not cover procedures or hospital stay. To be able to get my mother the best help she can receive to improve her quality of life, I want to raise money to be able to send her to Cleveland. The money would cover consultation and transportation and any needed testing.
If you or anyone you know has had radiation to the chest in the past, to please be aware of the side effects that may occur later on in life, as this is a newly discovered issue that many doctors don't know about.
If unable to donate, all we ask are prayers for her and my family. Thank you. God Bless.
