Send Moshe to Physical Therapy
Donation protected
At 5 months old, our son Moshe was diagnosed with an extremely rare neuromuscular disorder, Spinal Muscular Atrophy - Type 1. Those are big words to say that his body does not have the special proteins his brain needs to send messages to his muscles - messages like, "move this finger here" or "swallow your milk now." Without receiving those messages, the muscles will weaken, eventually atrophy, and die. We've been blessed for him to have received two different treatments that saved his life and gave his body back some of the missing messenger-proteins. But now that he's got the treatment, we have to tell those proteins where to go, and fast. And that requires A LOT of physical therapy.
There is a therapy program called Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) that has been proven to yield incredible results for kids like Moshe. Each PT intensive is one week, two sessions per day. The waitlist is long. We were told Moshe could not be seen until 2024. We signed up, thinking we would have 8 months to prepare. The cost is $5,000 per intensive - and we need around $1,000 for travel expenses and accommodations. Insurance will not cover it. So we started saving money.
Suddenly, there was a cancellation. We got the email that there was an open spot and it was first-come, first-serve. We took a leap of faith and booked it. Instead of 8 months, we now have 2 weeks to raise $6,000!
The timing is an answer to prayer. We're racing against the clock, between taking advantage of Moshe's neuroplasticity as a baby (his brain's ability to repair and grow new neurological connections to his muscles) and his weight (the PT intensives have a max weight limit of 30 lbs; Moshe currently weighs 21 lbs). He needs this intensive now for the best results and greatest impact for the rest of his life.
We need you! Help us raise the remaining $5,500 in two weeks to send Moshe to his physical therapy intensive and, with God's help, open up a whole new world of possibilities for him.
