I really could use your help!
That's me at the Life Jacket Graveyard on the Greek isle of Lesvos. Picture two football fields chest high with life jackets and rafts. Each one representing a life that crossed the Aegean sea from Turkey to Greece seeking asylum. Some, sadly too many, perish in the crossing. Yet they still come.
When I was there last December they had worked the population down below 6,000 it is now over 14,000! So I am going back to serve, to live out the words in Matthew 25;
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’"
The cost of the trip is $3,000, airfare $1,500, meals and lodging $1,500. I have already purchased my tickets I am requesting your assistance in covering the $1,500 for meals and lodging.
This will be my third trip in two years. I was able to absorb the cost of the previous trips within my own resources. Recent changes in my career prevent me from doing so for this trip.
This is not easy for me. I would rather stand in front of a group of angry Arab women and tell them we have no more diapers to distribute than ask for help. I suspect this is God's way of working on my pride. So I humbly I come before you and ask for your help.
Whatever you feel compelled to do or not do is fine, trust me I understand.
