Siamo i mhackeroni, la principale squadra di ethical hacking italiana. Nel 2018 abbiamo unito le forze delle migliori formazioni universitarie e professionali italiane per partecipare alla competizione di cybersecurity più prestigiosa: la finale mondiale del DEF CON Capture The Flag di Las Vegas.
Il DEF CON è la conferenza mondiale di sicurezza informatica più prestigiosa e conosciuta, citata anche da numerosi film e serie TV di successo, come X-Files, The Signal, e il popolarissimo Mr. Robot. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DEF_CON)
Il momento culmine di DEF CON è sicuramente la competizione Capture The Flag, dove un ristrettissimo numero di hacker - circa 15 le squadre invitate - si affrontano a colpi di exploit.
Anche quest’anno saremo tra i finalisti: abbiamo infatti confermato gli ottimi risultati ottenuti nel 2018. Dopo il secondo posto alle selezioni su 600 squadre provenienti da tutto il mondo, ed il settimo posto alla finale mondiale, ad agosto torneremo a Las Vegas grazie alla nostra vittoria in Germania allo storico Chaos Communication Congress, punto di riferimento europeo per la sicurezza informatica - con un primo posto su oltre 600 squadre provenienti da tutto il mondo.
mhackeroni si conferma quindi come un’eccellenza italiana ed ormai una presenza fissa sul palcoscenico internazionale, continuando la tradizione di successi delle singole squadre fondatrici, i cui membri provengono dal mondo accademico - Politecnico di Milano, La Sapienza Roma, Università degli Studi di Padova, Ca’ Foscari Venezia, TU Wien, ETH Zurich - e da affermate realtà industriali. Alcune fra le più recenti competizioni che hanno visto componenti dei mhackeroni fra i protagonisti sono RuCTF in Russia, CSAW CTF in Francia, ed European Cybersecurity Challenge di ENISA a Londra e Malaga.
Competere alle finali del DEF CON CTF richiede un grande sforzo di gruppo: i mhackeroni sono circa 40 tra i migliori studenti e ricercatori italiani in cybersecurity, e la partecipazione di ognuno è necessaria per poter competere con le squadre rivali, anch‘esse di dimensioni simili e spesso supportate direttamente da organi statali o militari.
Organizzazione e comunicazione di gruppo sono fondamentali per il successo: è per questo che siamo alla ricerca di sponsor e fondi per consentire alla squadra la presenza a Las Vegas.

We are mHACKeroni, an Italian ethical hacking team. We come from a handful of small italian teams that in 2018 decided to join forces. Our goal? Compete in the most prestigious hacking competition in the world: DEF CON CTF.
This competition takes place during the DEF CON conference, the most renowned hacking and cybersecurity event in the world. You might know it because it was featured in popular movies and TV shows such as X-Files, The Signal, and the recent Mr. Robot.
DEF CON's main highlight is surely the Capture The Flag (CTF) competition, where only a selection of the best teams from academia and industry compete for the glory.
This year we will be part of DEF CON again: In fact, we confirmed the great results of 2018, when we got second place out of 600+ teams at the qualification round, and we scored seventh at the final in Vegas. This year we competed in the Capture The Flag of the historical Chaos Communication Congress, the biggest European hacker conference -- and we won the only qualification spot out of 600+ teams from all over the world.
We are one of the 16 teams that managed to get a seat at the finals in Vegas. We, therefore, think that our presence during this event is a great opportunity for visibility: last year’s attendees were over 28.000, and everyone's eyes are pointed to the few competing teams.
Competing in the DEF CON CTF finals is a great team effort. mHackeroni are 40 young people among the best students and researchers in cybersecurity. Logistics and communication are critical for the success of our crew, so we are looking for sponsors and supporters to help us bring the team to Las Vegas.
