Dear Family and Friends,
Two years ago, our dear family member, Meagan Mullen, was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), widely known as Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disorder that mistakenly, and aggressively, attacks healthy tissue in the body, weakening the body’s ability to fight off illness and causing painful inflammation. At it worst, Lupus can attack major organs, such as the kidneys, lungs, brain and the skin. In Meagan’s case, her lungs and skin have been greatly attacked, causing compromised breathing and hair loss. Due to her grave condition, she has to take a very high dosage of steroids everyday, which causes insomnia, generalized body aches and pains, and muscle weakness. It has even affected her ability to walk long distances without a wheelchair. Even though she has been aggressively treated with multiple medications, Meagan has been hospitalized 15 times since her diagnosis with 8 of those times being in 2019 alone. Meagan has even spent two times in the ICU, fighting for her life.
Coming up with a regimen to stabilize her flares has been an uphill battle that has led us to try a holistic approach and send her to the NEWSTART Lifestyle program in Sacramento, California. NEWSTART is a physician monitored, scientifically researched lifestyle change program based on eight fundamental principles proven to help you achieve optimum health: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Air, Rest and Trust. Unfortunately, this program does not accept insurance, requiring Meagan to pay out-of-pocket, in full before her admittance. Meagan is scheduled to travel July 15th and will have to stay in the facility for 18 days. The total cost of the program is $6,500, in addition to the travel arrangements and lodging during her time of stay. Even with health insurance, many of Meagan’s medications and hospitalizations have required grand out-of-pocket expenses. Millie Givens, her aunt, will monitor the funds.
Through your help and support, my prayer is that Meagan will begin to live her life freely and with fully restored health. Please pray for her recovery and share her story. Any amount of donation is not too small to overcome this difficult phase of her life. May God bless you all.
