Send Mateal H. on her College Tour!

January 2017
All of us at Collective Impact | Magic Zone are thrilled that our wonderful Mateal Harrison (a sophomore in our Teen youth development program) is pursuing her goal of going on a college tour over Spring Break. Instead of relaxing over vacation or putting in hours at her job, Mateal is choosing to focus on traveling from San Francisco to visit 8 schools in 6 days. The tour of several historically black colleges & universities (HBCUs) will include South Carolina State, Bennett College, Winston-Salem State University, and North Carolina Central University.
We could go on about why it’s important to support Mateal in achieving this dream, but we couldn’t say it any better that she does:
I am excited about this college tour for several reasons, and my goals (on this trip and in my future) are to:
· Get a better idea of college and have the ability to experience college life
· Be something in life, and pursue something in life
· Accomplish all my goals that my parents were not able to
· Make my mom proud
· Be able to have a bright future and a successful future, and not have to depend on anything (welfare, etc.)
Social media, television, and movies play a big part in my enthusiasm for going to college; all of them, especially commercials, portray the point of view of college students as happy. They seem genuinely happy to be having this experience. I hope I have the same experience when I get to college.
This trip over spring break 2017 will help me actually visit colleges I am interested in, ask questions, walk around the campuses, and let me see college life for myself. Thank you for your help in getting me to my goal!
Mateal H., age 15| San Francisco, CA
Mateal works very hard, and we are extraordinarily proud of her. She is asking her family, friends, neighbors, and all who want her to succeed to donate to her College Tour Fund. Her goal is $2,500 to cover travel and accomodation costs; please plan to give generously! Please let us know of any questions about ways to donate to support Mateal.
