Jeffrey Dahn Memorial Foundation is educating youth in Africa, specifically STEM via amateur radio. The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise money for airfare for two Malawian amateur radio operators who have been invited to Tokyo Ham Fair, a global amateur radio convention held every August. Elayi Banda, 7Q7EB, and Urgent Jere, 7Q6UJ, have received their travel visas and are excited to participate in this event. Our goal is to raise money for their round-trip airfare from Lilongwe, Malawi, to Tokyo, Japan, which is $2,800 each, totaling $5,600.
Elayi Banda is president of the Malawi Amateur Radio Society and an active amateur radio enthusiast. He holds a U.S. Extra Class amateur radio license, AC3MF, and is an ARRL volunteer examiner for WM7X VE TEAM.
Urgent Jere, 7Q6UJ, is a 19-year-old student studying computer engineering at Livingstonia University in Northern Malawi. He is a board member of the Malawi Amateur Radio Society, a member of ARRL, HacDC Amateur Radio Club, CWOPS, PVRC, and an ARRL volunteer examiner with the WM7X VE TEAM. Urgent holds a U.S. Extra Class amateur radio license, W4UJ, and is a team member of the VK9XY 2026 Christmas Island DXpedition.
