Hi! My name is Luke Orlan Balaguer, and I am a junior Vocal Performance major studying at Carnegie Mellon University. I was offered an opportunity to do a young artist program in Tuscany, Italy, at Opera Seme. I don't have the funds to attend this program, but I am committed to working hard to make ends meet.
At the tail end of my undergrad, it would be an amazing opportunity to perform on the big stage in Italy before my senior year. For those who find this GoFundMe and know nothing about me, I have studied singing since 8th grade, and it has been my passion ever since. I only got into opera by 11th grade after watching Pirates of Penzance, composed by Gilbert and Sullivan. The show was comical and made me enjoy opera on a level I never expected for myself to enjoy opera. Ever since then, I have been obsessed with knowing everything about opera, and I believe that opera has shaped my life for the better.
I currently have a 2.5k scholarship, but I need 6k for it to be free. I am currently working a job on top of classes, and I look forward to working over the summer before the program begins to pay for these expenses. At the very least, I want enough money to pay for travel funds, which is 2k dollars.
