Earlier this month, our good friend Bernie Lombardo was given some life changing news. On June 6th, Bernie woke up with horrible back pain and was having a hard time catching his breath. After an urgent trip to the emergency room and some routine testing, doctors told Bernie they found a large mass on the left side of his chest. After a biopsy of the tumor, they were then given even more devastating news. Bernie was diagnosed with B Cell Lymphoma. With the tumor being so large, it is putting pressure on his heart and lungs and therefore pushing them into the back of his chest. Desperate for the best treatment, they scheduled an appointment with Sloan Kettering in NYC, one of the top ranked cancer centers in the Northeast. The oncologist there told him he needed to start treatment immediately, because of how life threatening the tumor is. Bernie was put on a treatment plan for 6 rounds of Chemotherapy in the hopes that it will shrink and destroy the tumor. He started his first round of treatment on June 25th, two days after his wedding. With Bernie being employed at Wesley Village as an LPN, he is currently unable to work with his diagnosis and compromised immune system. With medical treatment, travel, and stay in New York City every two weeks, his expenses are adding up very quickly. We ask most importantly that you please keep Bernie in your thoughts and prayers.
