Send Lily to Lindy Focus!

Hi friends! My name is Lily and I’m raising funds to attend Lindy Focus this year. Lindy Focus is a week-long dance event in Asheville, NC that not only features world-class instructors, musicians, and dancers, but the event has a devotion to community, scene-building, and cultural appreciation that is unlike other dance exchanges. In this past year, I was elected President of Swing Ann Arbor, our local Lindy Hop scene. Since joining the board, I’ve gained incredible real-world experience in building community, improving ADEI, and so much more. This organization has been incredibly important to me since beginning college, and has led me to find what I’m truly passionate about. This year, I started studying Arts Administration and Community Engagement, and have found myself unbelievably fulfilled in all the work I’m doing. My lifelong interests in music, dance, social justice, and community have been brought together in such an exciting way. This direction feels even more right to me after finding it impossible to look away from the recent injustices in our world, as I’m sure many of you are feeling as well. The importance of community and togetherness has been emphasized to me like never before. I want to make my career in Community Engagement, and the knowledge, experience, and connections I would gain at Lindy Focus would be invaluable to me. This years’ schedule includes discussions and workshops on topics like disability outreach, creating safe spaces, intersectionality, queer jazz history, and more.

In order to attend this year, I need to cover the cost of registration, travel, and housing by December 25th. (The event is Dec 26th-Jan 1st!) Registration for this event includes a weeks’ worth of classes, discussions, workshops, dances, practice sessions, and so much more. A full pass is $500.

I am hoping to cover travel and housing with $250. Some amazing friends in the dance scene here have offered to help with accommodations and arranging travel, so I’m able to keep costs low. Many thanks in advance, and please feel free to share this fundraiser if you’re able!
