My name is Lavenna Beauman and I am a student at Riverdale High School.
I received an invitation to go to the Congress of Medical Leaders in June of 2026. This is a huge, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for anyone invited and I would love to attend, but expenses are too great for me to pay on my own. Tuition alone is 12 hundred dollars. Not to mention lodging, food, and transportation. Signups for the trip along with tuition payments, whether split or full, are due on Wednesday, April 22.
About the event:
The Congress of Future Medical Leaders is an honors-only program designed for high school students who are interested in pursuing careers as physicians or medical researchers. It is held annually and is managed by the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists.
The 2026 Congress is scheduled to take place from June 24 to 26, 2026, at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, just outside of Boston.
Program Overview
The event serves as a high-level networking and motivational summit. Over the course of three days, students (referred to as "Delegates") participate in the following:
- Mentorship from Experts: Speeches and Q&A sessions with Nobel Prize winners, Ivy League medical school deans, and leaders in medical technology.
- Live Surgery Observation: A hallmark of the event is the opportunity to watch a live surgery (broadcasted) with the surgeon explaining the procedure in real-time.
- Networking: Meeting thousands of like-minded peers from across the country.
- Recognition: Graduates receive the "Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence."
Technically, the program is "by invitation only," but students can also seek a nomination through a teacher or by applying directly with proof of academic standing.
- GPA Requirement: A minimum 3.5 GPA (current or cumulative) is required.
- Selection: Nominations are often sent to students based on high PSAT/SAT scores or teacher recommendations.
