Send Kathleen to Conquer Worlds

Don protégé
The next major stop in Kathleen Hall's Epic Triathlon Journey is Tri "Worlds" in Switzerland - Where she will represent the USA in the 2019 International Triathlon Union Grand Finals....And she needs your help to get there. Let's give her all the support we can so she can conquer "Worlds" in Switzerland!

Here is the ITU website devoted to the event: https://lausanne.triathlon.org/

Kathleen will be one of the United States' top competitors from Pacific Northwest. She has dominated regional triathlons, and despite a brutal crash on the bike, she was the fastest female competitor from Washington State at the 2018 USAT National Championship in Cleveland.

Those of you who know Kathleen know how much of a committed and caring person she is. She works very hard to be a positive force for those around her, and I'm certain that many would testify to her ability to improve others' lives. This is our chance to help set Kathleen up for success in one of her passions! Whether it's as a friend, family member, client, or even just as a supporter of your local athlete community, I thank you for considering a donation.

   The road to this point...

   2016
Seafair - Seattle, WA. July - 1st Overall Female
Kathleen participated (and took first place) in her first triathlon in July of '16, achieving a time of 2:16:03. This gave her the itch to keep competing in the sport, though she wouldn't compete again until the following year.

   2017
Chelanman - Chelan, WA. July - 1st Overall Female
Determined to find out if her surprise victory was just a fluke, Kathleen signed up for the "Chelanman" triathlon. On a beautiful sunny day in Lake Chelan in July of '17, Kathleen completed her second major triathlon with a time of 2:26:57...which was fast enough to earn the top spot on the podium. This race qualified her to compete in the USAT Age Group National Championship the following year.

   2018

Kathleen knew that in order to be competitive at the national level, she would have to become more knowledgeable and train smart. In February of 2018, she completed her USA Triathlon Coach Certification, and immediately proceeded to put her newfound knowledge to the test.  Adhering to a strict training schedule (while continuing to meet the demands of every day life), Kathleen completed 3 triathlons in 2018:

Lake Wilderness - Maple Valley, WA. June - 1st Overall Female
Completing the challenging Lake Wilderness course with a time of 2:40:39 earned Kathleen the top spot. Entering the final leg - the run - behind another strong competitor, she knew she had to push herself to the limit. With just a few miles to go, she overtook first place and never looked back. Kathleen ended up posting the fastest times in both the swim and run legs of the triathlon, edging out her competition by less than a minute.

Chelanman - Chelan, WA. July - 2nd Overall Female, 1st in Age Group
Using her second 'Chelanman' triathlon mainly as a gear check and training event, Kathleen completed in 2:18:56, crushing her previous year's time on the same course. With the Age Group National Championship coming up quickly, she could only give herself a single rest day before jumping back into a strict training routine.

USAT Age Group National Championship - Cleveland, OH. August (Invite Only) - 9th in Age Group
Only athletes who qualify are eligible for this event, meaning that competition would be very stiff. Of those qualified athletes: only 18 of 122 in Kathleen's age bracket would qualify for a chance to race in Switzerland. This race would undoubtedly be the highest level of competition that she'd seen yet...and on an unfamiliar course, in an unfamiliar city.

Despite a full-speed crash on the bike (20mph+; due to pothole on road) Kathleen would finish with a time of 2:24:48, earning her 9th place in her age group, and qualifying her to represent the United States in the 2018. She was the fastest woman in the race from Washington State.

   Note from Jonathan (gofundme organizer):
Kathleen's ascendance onto the scene of triathlon has been astounding and a pleasure to watch over the last few years. I take pride in my job as a key support person and do everything I can to remove barriers in her pursuit of her passion. This typically involves mostly morale support and help with training. However as she's progressed up the competitive ladder, the cost of the sport has started to become the most restrictive barrier. Triathlon is an expensive sport; and Switzerland is an expensive setting...So it's not going to be cheap. I'm hoping that we can raise enough money to send Kathleen to the Finals with the best shot at victory. I've itemized expected costs in the 'best case' scenario below. We're very thankful for anything that you'd like to contribute!
