This fundraiser benefits Joyce Barnes, a home health care worker featured on an NPR story about living on the minimum wage (link to story below).
I was driving home from the grocery store, having spent over $100 on a light shopping, when I heard Joyce Barnes' story on NPR. Joyce works two minimum wage jobs, 12 hours per day. She takes care of two men--one who lost his legs and one who lost use of one side of his body. She loves helping them, but she barely makes ends meet. Her weekly food budget is $25. She hasn't had any time off since six years ago, when she was in the hospital. She's always dreamed of going to New Orleans. Let's give Joyce the vacation she has earned!
