It is official! I am a graduate of Pepperdine University. The past four years have been filled with twists and turns, highs and lows and all kinds of amazing new experiences. I made lifelong friends. I got married(!!). I wrote a movie score. I discovered my love for conducting. I traveled to Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Uganda and Canada.
Through all of it, I discovered myself. More than that, I discovered the life that God is calling me to.
God has made it clear to me that I am called to ministry through music. Specifically, God has given me a deep passion for helping impoverished communities lift themselves out of a poverty mindset. The tool He has equipped me with for this task is music. I am called to bring the life-giving power of music into impoverished communities through music education, the formation of musical ensembles and the performance of high quality music within these communities. Specifically, God has given me a heart to carry out this work in the country of Brazil. As I have become aware of this calling, I have taken several steps to prepare myself for this future.
One of those steps was to seek opportunities to travel to Brazil to begin building an international musical network.
God provided that opportunity.
I was recently accepted to the São Paulo Contemporary Composer’s Festival in São Paulo, Brazil. This festival consists of ten days of studying, traveling and performing works with some of the best musical ensembles in Brazil. I have been commissioned to write a new piece for the string quartet Quarteto Larianna that will be premiered in São Paulo this Fall. Additionally, the team that oversees this festival has been working to help connect me with organizations that I am hoping to work with in the future. Specifically, I will be meeting with the leaders of Brazil’s Projecto Guri, a non-profit organization that provides musical education to children in impoverished communities throughout São Paulo. In short, this is an invaluable opportunity to lay the groundwork for my future ministry in Brazil.
In order to make this amazing opportunity a reality, I need your help. I am needing to raise $1,000 by August 1st and the full amount by September 1st. Your donation will go towards covering the cost of tuition at this workshop ($2,000) and my travel costs. If 50 people can contribute $20, I will meet my August 1st deadline. Please consider being a part of this amazing opportunity. Your donation will help bring the joy of music to thousands of Brazilians.
Be a part of God's work in my life. Help get me to Brazil.
