Send Joe to Space

Donation protected
On Saturday June 23rd, our brother, Joe Orzo was hit by a car whilst on his daily 30 mile cycle. The injuries sustained from this accident robbed him of his life 4 days later.

One of Joe's biggest passions was Science and the Universe.  His lifelong dream was to be able to take Haley on a Space Expedition and make love in front of the stars :)

As a family - we want to make this happen, well the first part....

....I know this seems kind of out there, but Joe's belief system was different to most - and for him to be able to be in Space looking down on us for the rest of our lives would be everything he would have wanted.  He adored his family, especially his nephews, and his LP the love of his life - Haley.

Haley and Joe met in Astronomy lab studying the stars. Haley told Joe on the first day of class, "We're going to be best friends".  Since then, this has remained true. They have travelled the world in search for the best places on Earth to view the stars. In the last 5 years Joe and Haley have traveled to New Zealand in hopes to see the Milky Way Galaxy at a Dark Sky observatory and last year to Jackson Hole Wyoming to witness the 2017 Solar Eclipse. Their shared passion for the mysteries and beauty of the Universe created a bond that will forever hold true.

After Joe's cremation - we would like to begin the process of accomplishing one of Joe's final requests, getting his ashes blasted into space.  There is a company that will put his ashes in a capsule that can be sent into space, will orbit the Earth for 2 years, then disperse amongst the stars.  The funds raised will go towards making this happen, and to make sure that Haley and family can say their final goodbyes to this legend.

Joe was a brilliant man.  Upon first meeting him, you would think he was a dry, quiet person; however to his friends, family, and people he allowed into his inner circle he was the most hilarious, loving, witty, outgoing, and intelligent person you would ever meet.

During these last few days - we have heard numerous stories from family and friends that all highlighted the special bonds he created with each and every person.  Joe had a unique ability to make everyone feel so special, like they were the only person on earth.  No task was ever too big or small for Joe to offer a helping hand, from fixing a printer, to building a full blown addition to their house.  Joe was also constantly seeking ways to enhance not only he and Haley's life, but everyone around him as well.  He was our own personal consumer reports data base, things that Joe recommended tended to have a way of making it into everyones homes that were apart of this inner circle.

I cannot describe the families current state outside of shock and despair - we are going to begin the emotional repair one step at a time.  Living life without Joe by our side is going to be the single most difficult thing in the world - we will drive forward as a family - but things will never be the same again.  He will never be forgotten and will be with us by our side forever.

Many of you have asked what you can do for us - funeral flowers, meals, etc. In lieu of these offerings - we would love some kind of contribution.

Your support and/or donation to this project is more than appreciated by the family.  The support, positivity, prayers, and messages to date have been overwhelming and have given us as a family a real sense of comfort and love.

I will keep people updated with information and steps once we begin this project for Joe.

We love you all and again, appreciate the support during this difficult time.

The Family.  x

**UPDATE 7/12/18**

The amount of support for this has been overwhelming.

We are delighted to inform everyone who has donated that we are ready to begin the process of getting Joe's ashes sent to Space.

The company we are using is called 'Celestis'.  They specialize in Space Memorials.  We have been working closely with their team and have booked Joe a place on the rocket that will be launched as part of their Deep Space Mission set for late 2019.

Janine (Joe's sister) and I will be managing the funds from this campaign and will be applying these funds to pay for Voyage in to deep space for Joe and any expenses incurred.

In addition - any funds left over will be given to Joe's wife, Haley to make sure that flights, accommodation for her and the family are covered so we can all be a part of this experience and give Joe the send off he deserves.

Thank you all again for all the support!
