"Mom, when can I study abroad?"
That question started when he was 12-years-old. He was trying to learn French for a school elective and was so frustrated by studying a language in relative isolation from hearing it.
I told him he could study abroad in high school, which felt very far away at that time. He showed me a picture of Kyoto, Japan and said "this would be so cool."
When he filled out an application packet in December (where did those years go?!), we both knew it would be a long shot. He'd need a full scholarship and the program has to prioritize Seniors and Juniors- he's only a Sophomore. We knew Kyoto was a competitive program so he listed two alternative locations. It was *layers* of long shots.
With delight, shock, and great joy, I'm happy to say James won (earned!) a scholarship to Kyoto, Japan and leaves as soon as the school year ends.
His scholarship doesn't cover plane tickets, his spending money, and the registration fee, so we are asking our loved ones for support to help send James to Japan for this amazing opportunity.
Thank you for consideration a donation to this gofundme.
