Hector Guerro passed from our world the other day, at the age of just 36. I was blessed to be at his bedside praying for him during the final hours of his short, but powerful life. He never drank or smoked, he just lived life to the fullest. He was diagnosed with severe Cardiomyopathy at age 25. He optimistically endured numerous surgeries (like a ventricular assist device) in the hope of being healthy... and he never complained. His two great desires were to be a wonderful father to his children, and a leader of his beloved Navajo people in Alamo. He was well known for delivering firewood, water and other basics to elders and families in need; always doing fundraisers of all sorts for anyone who needed help. When I first met him, he was in a hospital bed recovering from another serious surgery. He got into his wallet and gave me $400 for Beds4kidz! He leaves behind two special children, each brilliant in their own ways. Dakota Hawk is 13, loves technology & dreams of being a Game Designer. Danielle Camille is a spark plug of positivity, who I see as a future leader of the Navajo Nation. She loves sports and hopes to become a teacher. She has her fathers love of the Alamo community, and is already on her way to stepping into his shoes. Hector’s Fiance’ Olivia Nelson has paid the funeral costs, with funds she was planning to use towards her Doctorate (after 2 Masters Degrees). My desire is to pay her back, then put everything else towards establishing an Education Fund for Dakota and Danielle. We will oversee this fund through my Non Profit, UpB4 the Son Ministries and Charities. Every dollar donated will go to the family, with no management fees. I am kicking things off with $500, and urge you to give anything the Lord leads you to contribute. Hector loved Jesus and we prayed together many times; encouraging each other through the trials of life, through Face Book messages, texts and visits. He was absolutely thrilled to gain 8 more years of life after his grim diagnosis. He never took time to feel sorry for himself; he was ALWAYS too busy helping others! This is a beautiful opportunity for us to speak into the lives of his wonderful and talented children. I know in my heart they will pay back our generosity a thousand times over! I pray you will join me in stepping up to give Hector Guerro’s children a fighting chance at completing the trek towards the examples of leadership and service, their father modeled for them, and for all of us.
