Send Gretchen to Tin House Summer Workshop
Hello everyone!
I just received the great news that I've been accepted to the Tin House Summer Workshop for writers! It's an incredible honor, with an acceptance rate of only 15%, and an amazing lineup of authors, agents, and guests.
Unfortunately, however, I was not awarded a scholarship to attend. And this opportunity is too exciting to pass up, so I am asking for your help.
After a long hiatus from pursuing writing (raising young children, long divorce), I have been working really hard at reviving my writing career. I have been submitting like crazy and busily collecting rejections, because if I collect enough rejections, eventually there will be some acceptances too, right? This particular acceptance brought me great joy and hope and I am thrilled beyond belief at the prospect of attending this workshop.
I have to put down a $500 deposit within two weeks. The remaining tuition with room and board, $1400, is due by July 1st. And I will need $500 for travel funds.
My writing...I'm currently working on a collection of linked short stories set on and around a Seneca reservation rocked by a controversial land claims case. An 80 year old woman kills her best friend upon the advice of a ghost, a woman with the power to smell death inherits a baby with superpowers, body parts of an activist banished by the clan mothers begin to disappear, a non-Native woman burns down her house to keep it from going to the tribe even though she herself has Native kids.
Anyway, I would be grateful for any help at all. Thank you so much for considering me!!
All my best,
Gretchen
