Send Girls to Coding Camp II

Jersey Shore Women in Tech ( ) is raising money to send local girls from low-income families to Plum Crazy Robotics in Marlboro, NJ for the second year in a row.

After a successful fundraiser last year, we raised $5000 to send 8 girls to the camp for 8 weeks.  So far we have sent 4 and plan to start accepting new applications for the next group soon. This round of funding will go to the next several girls (the number depending on how much we raise) in the following year.

The first camp was very successful and we knew we couldn’t stop there. The girls, timid at first, ended up having so much fun as their confidence grew over time. We know how impactful it was to plant that seed for them.  We feel it is our responsibility to help bridge the diversity gap and throw the ladder down to those who need it. You can read about the girls from the first camp’s journey in the updates section of last year’s campaign here

The applicants come from schools who do not have access to technology education due to economic factors. These schools don't have computer labs or technology classes. The only way they can gain access into the fastest-growing industry in the world is through outside education, which costs money. Our goal is to break down that barrier for them!

100% of funds raised will go towards the coding camp initiative.

"Platinum", "Gold", and "Silver" sponsorship levels are available for companies.

If your company wants to participate as a corporate contributor, please contact us for details through this campaign by clicking the "Donate" button, and before you enter any information, on the right side you'll see "About the Organizer". Click on the mail icon and select "Contact the Organizer". We will then email you the details.

And don’t forget, sharing is caring! Share this GoFundMe campaign to those you know. The more funds we raise, the more girls we can send!

About the facilities:
At this fun and interactive lab, students will learn code writing in Python and various other languages while working with Arduinos, Raspberry Pi's, gaming, 3D printing, etc. Students typically start with the same foundation and can choose which trajectory is most interesting to them.
We will also purchase a take-home kit for the girls so they can practice at home and can keep after classes are over as a way for them to continue learning for years to come and share with friends and family!

Classes will be 1x/week for 90 minutes after school and will run for 2 months. Classes will most likely start after applications have been selected, dependent on students' schedules and availability. If students are unable to drive to the camp or get a ride, we will arrange transportation at no cost to the student as part of the sponsorship.

New This Year:
Chuck, the owner of Plum Crazy, has graciously offered 2 extra classes for free to any student with a 100% attendance record!

An application process will determine which girls are selected to go. We will determine how many students we can send based on how much money we raise, and will announce the selected applicants at that time.
