I'm Ruth Matta, and this is my first ever fundraiser. You might think that odd considering I've been playing American Football, self-funded, for ten years but for those who don't know me... I'm a very stubborn individual.

Even at the highest level possible for women, American Football is a self-funded sport. As an athlete who represents both my Country and the Boston Renegades, I've incurred significant costs over the years and made many personal sacrifices in order to compete alongside the best in the world.

Since 2019, I've been working three jobs to afford to travel and play for both Great Britain and Boston, whilst also carving out time to maintain peak physical fitness. All so I can compete at the highest level possible, something that is afforded so much more easily to our male counterparts. Female athletes shouldn't be limited due to limited finances.

This year, I will be travelling to Spain to represent Great Britain Women's American Football in our quest to capture a European Championship. From Spain, I will be travelling onwards, to Boston in time for our 2024 campaign, where I hope to win my fifth National title with the Renegades in the WFA.

With my cost of living increasing, the inability to work in the US, and the GB campaign in Spain falling just before my trip to the States, with encouragement from the people around me, it seemed like the right time to ask for help.

Spain Trip: Flights, accommodation, training camp costs, travel insurance.

Boston Trip: Flights to the USA, internal flights for away games, player fees, medical and travel insurance.
