Send Erin to Heaven

Erin McMahon was born with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome in February 1978. Among her disabilities were a moderate to severe hearing loss, stunted growth, and slow development. She wasn’t supposed to survive six months. She was so small when she was first born that doll clothes were too big for her. When Erin’s mother Cheryl passed away on December 25, 1987, my father, Leo Berard, became guardian of her and her siblings , Ryan, Katie, and Matt. Shortly after, a doctor told my father to put her in an institution and that she would never accomplish anything. A year later we brought her back to that doctor for a follow-up. In a year, with love and support from her family, Erin dramatically increased her number sign language vocabulary and made many other developmental advances. The doctor was astounded at her progress and apologized for his comment made a year before.

Erin loved watching movies (Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, and Mac and Me were her favorites), drinking coffee and chocolate milk, and being waited on hand and foot. She enjoyed long rides in the car, walks (as long as we pushed her in her chair), going out to eat, and shopping.

Sadly, Erin passed away on November 6, 2017. This was completely unexpected. We are trying to raise funds to help with her final expenses. Please help us with her final expenses.
