Send Delaney to Spain for a chance of a lifetime

Donation protected

Do you know Delaney Daly? If you do, you know that she is a guard on Carlow University’s Division Two Women’s Basketball team. She is tough and talented and, on the court, she shows skill, dedication and determination rarely seen. Off the court, Delaney is a thoughtful, bright and kind role-model for many young women.

Earlier this year, Delaney was invited by Beyond Sports  to participate in a two-week-long women’s basketball tournament in Spain - playing in Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia.

Selected as an NAIA representative, Delaney will compete in this once-in-a-lifetime, cross-cultural competition experience. The selection criteria include statistical leaders, all-conference recognition, and coaches’ recommendations. During these two-weeks, Delaney will not only be playing basketball with elite athletes from around the world, she will also be immersed in the culture and history of Spain. You can visit her itinerary here  to see for yourself the amazing opportunities that are being provided.

Sounds pretty amazing right? It is and Delaney is one amazing young woman who is deserving of this experience. The road to success was not always an easy one. Fraught with self-doubt and battling depression, Delaney has overcome many obstacles to become the young woman she is today. Naturally shy and introverted, Delaney says that basketball created a safe place for her to make friends and feel comfortable with herself.

The eldest of six children, Delaney was raised by her mother, Kimberly, in Brentwood. She started playing basketball at age 5. She participated in every camp and clinic that her mom and grandfather could find. For Delaney, basketball was more than just a sport or an activity that her mom put her in - it represented an escape to leave her often chaotic home where she could be quiet her mind and concentrate her efforts. (Her siblings include TWO sets of twins!)

As a 21-year-old young woman, she realizes that playing basketball helped to keep her grounded and physically and mentally strong and healthy. Playing ball has taught Delaney important lessons about working hard and trusting yourself to set and reach goals. Now a junior starter for Carlow University, Delaney has a bright future ahead of her, and she attributes her successes to the life lessons she learned on the court. In 2019, she was named “3rd Team All-American” - an award based on her statistics and voted on by the coaches in her conference.

Between her sophomore and junior year at Carlow, Delaney felt that she was not working up to her full potential. After some soul searching and honest conversations with her coaches, she set and achieved the following goals of being a starting player, becoming a team captain and leading the team to the playoffs.

Delaney has the love and support of some important people that include her mother, her siblings, her grandparents, her aunt and uncle, and her cousins, and her basketball mentor Rich Griffin. With their unwavering support, Delaney has pushed herself to work hard, overcome obstacles and been recognized as a leader both on the court and off. She has earned this amazing opportunity to travel to Spain.
