Send Direct Covid-19 Relief to Dhrangadhra, India

I'm raising money for urgently needed relief to disaster-stricken people located specifically within and near Dhrangadhra, India, who are suffering from the current surge of COVID-19. Dhrangadhra is an active desert community in Gujarat, northwest India, where I first visited and interacted in 2005 as a Temple University anthropology student of Professor Jayasinhji Jhala.

Today there is much sickness and desperation among these underserved people whose struggles are compounded by loss of life of their wage earner. Many live simply in remote villages, isolated from services they need. Doctor Harshad Patel, the incharge physician of a health center is an enthusiastic practitioner who feels helpless due to lack of basic necessary provisions. Some rural families are starving because there has been no work during this time of pandemic.



Your donated funds will purchase supplies or be given as a one time payment to a devastated family; monies will be distributed directly as needs are determined by a team of trusted locals who will identify, assess and then advise the administrator and Raj of Dhrangadhra, HH Jayasinhji Jhala, Jhallesvar Maharaja of Halvad and Dhrangadhra, "the people's prince" who, traditionally, along with his family before him, has assisted the villagers when government agencies have forsaken them. This dire emergency calls for more financial support than one family can provide. And the need will last beyond the immediate crisis.
