Help get the Connetic Word 2019 team to Brave New Voices this summer in Las Vegas!
Connetic Word is a youth slam poetry team of seven Connecticut poets ages 13-19. For over 20 years (and under a variety of different names) Connetic Word has traveled to Brave New Voices, an international youth slam poetry competition and festival housed in a different U.S. city each summer. It is an opportunity of epic proportions for a young artist.
Every year, the team is created from scratch through a series of unbiased poetry slams. So naturally, each new season brings huge changes. The Connetic Word team is never composed of the same people, coached by the same coaches, or brought to the same place twice. But this year, our team is unlike any past Connetic Word team in a critical way: this year, our team is 100% of the youth, for the youth, and by the youth. All of our events are organized by the youth alone. We all coach each other and help each other grow as artists. We negotiate the details of traveling together. We're even completely in charge of our own fundraising, no safety net or adult behind the reins.
Needless to say, this group of youth artists is absolutely incredible and so deserving of their spot at Brave New Voices 2019. But this trip certainly isn't free, and we're all broke. This is where we are desperately asking for your support.
We need $2000 by May 17th for registration costs (which will cover housing and attendance fees for the festival and all of its wonderful events) and another $3000 by the end of June for other travel fees, including roundtrip plane tickets, daily meals, cost of living for two adult chaperones, Ubers and other means of transportation around the city, etc.
If we can go above and beyond and raise $6000 we can also bring along our two alternate poets and give them a chance to experience the incredible festival as well!
So please, help us make this happen! Show your support for youth voice and safe artistic spaces! Your contribution means so much to each of us, and we can't possibly thank you enough (but trust me, we'll try).
