Community-Centered Affordable Housing Solutions
Donación protegida
I have a vision of designing, building, and training my community to create cutting-edge affordable housing.
I’m in the final stretch of funding a vision for affordable housing that results in community-built, sustainable, beautiful residences that working-class folks can afford.
If you support this project, I will be able to bring sustainable, affordable housing and workforce training to an underserved region, and hopefully use it as a model that can be brought to other communities nationwide.
I've been accepted to a graduate architecture and construction semester where we will design and build a sustainable, modular home for an affordable housing client. Over four months, I will be working with a multigenerational group of students from various backgrounds. My vision is to bring this experience back to my peers and teach workshops on building strong community by designing and building sustainable affordable housing together. Will you support this vision?
How will this GoFundMe impact my community and my life?
- create a community-centered solution to the affordable housing crisis that can be adapted to other regions and towns.
- introduce an actively practicing small-home designer and builder focused on sustainability.
- familiarize the community with affordable housing that is beautiful, sustainable, and cost-effective
- teach skills to my peers so we can have a strong base of community knowledge.
Most of my peers in my community do not have secure housing. My partner and I live in 98sqft without running water, year-round. Some of us move multiple times a year, between trailers, tents, and moldy, dorm-style living. This problem is not unique to my region, but I envision a solution that starts here and can be adapted nationwide. We need dignified, energy-efficient places that are beautiful, functional, and feel like home, affordable for the people who work in the community. These are the homes for the next generation of community members who will take care of the island and be future community leaders.
