Joe "Brokenfeather" Darrah has been a key elder in the knife throwing community for decades. Many of you know him from competition or bladesmithing; virtually all knife throwing organizations in the English speaking world can trace their origins to Joe. However, what stands out about Joe is his generosity.
Joe doesn't have a lot, yet he gives more than most. A great many in our community have benefited from this. For example, he freely teaches how to make throwing knives; he gives his time to train new throwers; he even runs his annual tournament on a shoestring to keep costs low. Instead of spending his time making money for himself, he gives his time to us.
Now is a good time to give back to Joe, and help send him around the world to connect with our blade brothers in Asia. In fall 2018, a national knife throwing tournament will be held in in Jakarta, Indonesia. This gathering would be a great opportunity for Joe to connect with one of the largest organized knife throwing groups in the world.
Many things in Indonesia are cheap, like food. In addition, Joe will probably stay with our brothers to keep housing costs low. However, a plane ticket from Philly to Jakarta could cost $1600 (depending on date and the price of oil). I'm hoping to raise $2000 to make sure any complications are taken care of. For example, if a plane delay traps him in Singapore overnight, it could cost hundreds.
