Two years ago, a friend from college introduced me to rock climbing, neither of us knowing it would become my passion. When most people think of rock climbers, they see people scaling cliffs, mountain faces, taking daring and breathtaking routes. What they usually don’t see is competitive indoor rock climbing, or adaptive climbing. I am an adaptive rock climber.
Adaptive rock climbing is for people with physical disabilities, using whatever they can to get up the wall. This spring, I started competing in adaptive competitions for the first time. While it is fun, I always want to make sure that I am a well-trained and a well-rounded climber.
In June, I went to the adaptive climbing national competition in Columbus Ohio - where I placed second. Placing has given me the opportunity to be on the National team and represent the United States at adaptive climbing worlds in Innsbruck, Austria this September.
Through training for these competitions, I have received a ton of love and support from friends and family. The fact that I have done so well comes from the support system that I have built around me. Now I am asking for more support.
I am fundraising to travel to Worlds, and all proceeds will go towards transportation, housing, and food while I am in Innsbruck. In funding my trip to compete amongst some of the other greatest adaptive climbers in the world, you are funding my growth as a climber. Competing is a privilege, and having your support is one as well. Thank you.
