I have just returned from Chimaltenango, Guatemala on a Hope Worldwide medical community service brigade, where I performed 37 eye exams in two and one-half days. We gave away 28 pairs of glasses, improving each patient's vision. I also educated patients on common eye issues affecting the community. Before my trip in August 2025, only one other optometrist had joined the brigade in the last seven years. That means 80 people every year do not receive a basic eye exam. The brigade services are limited to the types of professional specialties that can attend. There are typically dentists, OBGYN, and pediatric doctors, but not eye doctors. I want to fill that need using my 10 years of experience in optometry.
I want to go again. The brigade operates every 6 months. I'd like to go again in February 2026, but I need the funds to get there, so if it's in your heart to give, please do so.
These are wonderful opportunities to serve those who need help.
If I had a financial benefactor, I would do this every six months. Geez, why don't I just put it out there... Want to give to a special benevolence? You can send me back to these people.
