Send Aida Back to Mexico (for an artist residency)

Donation protected
Aida Lizalde is an interdisciplinary Mexican artist currently living in Sacramento, CA. She was accepted to a residency in Mexico City at Casa Lu (https://www.casalu.org/).

The long Story Short:
At the beginning of the pandemic, we planned a trip  to visit her family's ranch in Aguascalientes, MX because flights were inexpensive; but this unexpected and exciting opportunity came up with some additional costs that weren't planned for. We made some flight changes so that she can land in Mexico city(~200$), she needs to pay for her room and board at the residency itself(~1500$), and some additional costs to purchase materials and some tools to do work while in Mexico(~$500), with some money to spare for food and miscellaneous purchases  (hit her up if you want some real huaraches that were made in Mexico).

The greater Scope:
If you know what an artist residency is, then you understand the value of attending one, and how much more competitive it makes your MFA application when you go to apply, as well as the value of them as an opportunity to grow a network of world-based artists. If you know Aida, you know how hard she's been working during the past 2 years since graduating from UC Davis with her BA in Studio Arts with a Minor in Arts History. While still in her undergrad, she attended the Vermont Studio Center with a fellowship Artist residency, and immediately after she graduated, she went to Mexico city to work on a digital storytelling campaign about people who had been deported. Aida then came back to the Sacramento area and took on an Education Manager position at Verge Center for the Arts while also making artwork, participating in group and solo art shows, finalizing her US Citizenship paperwork (after living undocumented), and helping promote diversity, inclusivity, people's campaigns, social issues (RE: "A guide for navigating cultural appropriation" and "A guide to curating culturally diverse exhibitions"). In the last few months alone she's helped organize a very successful campaign to keep Axis Gallery open and has helped raise funds for the Black artist fund through her classes, while also participating in solidarity marches and organizing classes to teach about cultural diversity in the arts.

Aida is an extremely hard worker and values raising the voices of BIPOC artists and while she doesn't like to ask for help because of her pride and what not, right now she could use our help to not pay so much out of pocket for this wonderful opportunity and learning experience while also being able to visit her home country again.
