Support for Wild Child Forest School
Hi, my name is Ashley Whynot and I am the Program Coordinator for the Nova Scotia chapter of Wild Child Forest School. We are a social enterprise of the non-profit grassroots organization Sierra Club Canada Foundation. To run our programs, we rely on grants, fundraisers and donations.
Wild Child Forest School is a child-led program that connects children to the land and each other through free play in the forest. Children and adults play alongside each other in a way that fosters curiosity, confidence, and creativity. We believe that connecting to and learning from the land is empowering. Children quickly develop self-awareness in their bodies and minds and quickly gain trust in themselves and others. Through a sustained process of regular and repeated sessions in the same outdoor space, children develop a reciprocal relationship with the land and an understanding of themselves as a part of the natural world.
These are opportunities that every child should have. I am reaching out to the community to help us provide free or low-cost spots to families in need, members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, newcomer families and members of the IBPOC community.
With your help, we can lift the financial burden of extracurricular activities and provide equitable opportunities for families to send their children to Forest School at little to no cost.
Our goal for 2023 is:
- 1-2 free/low-cost spots in our Spring, Fall & Winter Programming
- 2 free/low-cost spots for each week of our summer programs
At Wild Child we believe outside is a place where everyone belongs. Please help us make this a reality!
